Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra State has been honoured with The Sun Newspaper’s prestigious ‘Governor of the Year 2024’ Award for his credible performance in governance and the state’s infrastructural and transformational development.
The award was bestowed on the erudite, dynamic, and performance-driven governor at the Sun Publishing Limited award night at Eko Hotel and Suites in Victoria Island, Lagos, on Saturday, 1st of March 2025.
It was an event well attended by eminent social, political, and economic elite in the country, with accolades on Governor Soludo, who was the cynosure of the evening ceremony.
Presenting the coveted award to Soludo, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Bianca Ojukwu, alongside The Sun Newspaper publisher, Senator Orji Uzo Kalu, eulogised Governor Soludo for his visionary leadership in transforming the various sectors of the state’s economy, with unprecedented growth to the admiration of the citizens and nationwide.
The governor’s remarkable achievements are in the areas of infrastructure development, education, healthcare, security, innovation, human capital development, and economic transformation, among others.
In his remark, the elated Governor Soludo, who dedicated the award to the people of Anambra asserted “the keke drivers, artisans, market men and women” and his “Solution Team” cabinet members whose collective efforts have contributed to the state’s progress so far. We have just started, and I will say you have not seen anything yet,” he stated.
The governor also made reference to his award by The Sun Publishing Limited, stating “About 20 years ago, 8 national dailies, including the Sun Newspapers, named me ‘the Man of the Year’ for our modest contributions to recalibrating the Nigerian financial institution when I held sway as the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria. Quite fortuitously, two decades after, we are back on this stage,” Soludo avowed.
The recent accolade adds to Governor Soludo’s laurels as he clinched the best-performing governor in primary healthcare delivery in the Southeast and Nigeria, overall in 2024. This was presented by the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the Aliko Dangote Foundation, the Federal Ministry of Health, and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
Soludo’s innovative leadership also earned Anambra State the fourth position in the recent evaluation of BudgIT’s State of States 2024 Report for overall fiscal performance and sustainability.
